OH! EUROPA
.....
SYNOPSIS
A coach journey through the European community
provides the backdrop for the series, the starting point
of which is a prize draw organised by a bank for its customers.
The prize is a tour around the then twelve member countries
of the EEC visiting the capital cities. The lucky winners
hail from different parts of Catalonia and Valencia. Given
the nature of prize draws, the resulting group is very mixed
indeed: a cultured retired couple from uptown Barcelona,
a just-married couple, a family which owns a hotel in Palamós
on the Costa Brava, two girlfriends from Valencia, a teacher
of Ethics politically inclined towards Catalan independence,
two dancers from Barcelona’s cabaret district......
all of them guided by a novice tour guide and a loud-mouth
driver.
The series starts off with a dinner which
the travellers organise to celebrate the journey’s end.
It’s a typical “end of” dinner which allows
jumping backwards and forwards in time with each episode.
The first episode is the obligatory character presentation
episode whereas the twelve remaining episodes follow the
characters on their journey through each of the EEC member
countries.
The treatment of the characters is both
ironic and tender, in much the same way as the early theatrical
shows by Dagoll Dagom (given that the musical content of
the later shows would be at odds with the series’ characteristics).
The scripts are the work of Joan Lluís
Bozzo, with the collaboration of Tricicle’s Paco Mir.
The TV direction is by Eduard Cortés. Produced by
Sese Espona for TV3 and Anna Rosa Cisquella for Dagoll Dagom.
